Kalori is made by Hara Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (Company No. 201901010477 (1319805-K)), 18 Dutamas Raya, 51200 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with your information under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
The short version
Your meals, your photos, your profile and your settings stay on your iPhone. Kalori has no account and no server, so we never receive them and cannot see them.
One thing can leave your iPhone: when Search packaged food online is on, the words you type into food search, or the barcode you scan, are sent to Open Food Facts to look the product up.
There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDK in the app.
What stays on your iPhone
All of the following is kept in the app's private storage on your iPhone and is never sent to us:
- Every meal you log, its portion, and the photo you took of it.
- Foods you have looked up and saved, and barcodes you have linked to a dish.
- Your profile: name, sex, birth date, height, weight, activity level and goal. These are used only to suggest a daily calorie budget.
- Your settings, reminders and Ramadan times.
Deleting the app deletes all of it. You can also remove it at any time in Settings → Delete all data. We keep no copy, so we cannot restore it for you.
What leaves your iPhone
Open Food Facts. When Search packaged food online is on (Settings → Privacy & data), Kalori sends the words you type into food search, or a scanned barcode, to Open Food Facts, a non-profit food database based in France, so it can return matching products. Nothing else is sent with the request: not your name, your meals or your profile. As with any web request, Open Food Facts can see your device's internet address. Turn the setting off and nothing is sent; Kalori's own dishes and the bundled world dishes keep working offline.
This is a transfer of information outside Malaysia. Section 129 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 allows it where the destination protects personal data comparably. France applies the EU General Data Protection Regulation, and the information sent is deliberately narrow: a search term or a barcode.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, Kalori reads your active energy to add exercise to your budget. If you tap Fill from Apple Health in your profile, it also reads your height, weight, birth date and sex. Kalori never writes to Apple Health.
Health data stays on your iPhone. It is never sent to us or anyone else, never used for advertising or data mining, and never sold. You can change what Kalori may read in the Health app → Sharing → Apps → Kalori.
Camera, notifications and Apple Intelligence
- Camera. The camera is used only while you are scanning a meal or a barcode. Portions are measured on your iPhone. A meal photo is kept with that meal on your iPhone and is not added to your Photos library.
- Notifications. Meal and Sahur reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. They are not sent from a server.
- Ask Kalori uses Apple Intelligence, which runs on your iPhone. What you type is not sent to us.
Your rights
Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 you may ask for access to your personal data, ask for it to be corrected, withdraw consent, and ask for it to be deleted.
Because Kalori keeps everything on your iPhone, you already hold all of it: Settings → Export my meals gives you a copy, your profile can be edited at any time, and Delete all data removes it. If you have a question or a request, write to us at the address below. We will answer within the period the Act allows.
Children
Kalori is not directed at children. A person under 18 cannot agree to our Terms of Use themselves; a parent or guardian does that for them. Calorie budgets are not suitable for children, or during pregnancy, without advice from a doctor or dietitian.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app's release notes.
