If a particular script or scene caused it, say which — you do not need to send us the script, and please do not if it is confidential.

Getting started
Audition Buddy is a self-tape studio and a scene partner in one. The whole flow is six steps:
- Upload the script. Buddy reads it and works out what it is looking at.
- Let it find the scenes. It detects the scenes and who is in them. There is no tagging to do.
- Choose your character. Every other role becomes a part Buddy will read.
- Cast the other voices. Each role gets a voice, and you set its mood, energy and pace.
- Record. Your lines appear on the teleprompter while Buddy reads the rest.
- Review and keep. Watch the take back and save the one you want to your Photos library.
You do not need an account. Choose Continue without an account on the first screen. Signing in only exists so we can recognise you when you come back.
Scripts and scenes
Audition Buddy reads the common ways sides arrive: PDF, Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain, Word (.docx), rich text and plain text. If a file will not open, the upload screen in the app is the authority on what it currently accepts.
Scene and character detection works from the script's own formatting — character names above dialogue, scene headings where a scene changes. Sides that have been scanned as flat images, or reformatted so that character names no longer sit on their own line, are the usual reason detection comes back wrong. If that happens, tell us what the script looked like; it helps us handle more layouts.
Scripts you upload stay on your phone. Deleting a script removes it.
Buddy's voices
Every role you are not playing gets a voice, and you choose it — which voice reads it, and how it is played: mood, energy and pace. A reader who rushes you is worse than no reader at all, so it is worth setting the pace to something you can actually act against rather than accepting the default.
Buddy's voice is synthesised. You must not use it to imitate a real, identifiable person, to make anybody appear to say something they did not, or for anything unlawful, harassing or deceptive.
Recording and takes
Recording uses the camera and microphone only while you are recording, and only to make a file saved on your phone. Nothing is streamed anywhere.
Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. Tap Download to write a take into your Photos library — the app asks only for permission to add to your library, and cannot read your existing photos.
Deleted a take by mistake? Deleted takes, scenes and slates can be recovered for seven days. After that the files are removed for good, and because we never had a copy, we cannot restore them for you.
Confidential material
This is the one thing worth reading before you use the voice on real sides.
Your scripts, your recorded takes and your slate stay on your phone. But the lines Buddy reads aloud are sent to our server to be turned into speech — the dialogue of the other characters, not your lines, not your video, not your audio — and from us to our speech provider, ElevenLabs.
Casting sides are frequently under embargo or NDA. If you are not permitted to share the material with a third party, do not use Buddy's voice on it. The app still records, still shows the teleprompter, and still keeps your takes — you simply run the scene without the synthesised reader.
The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is sent, including how rendered audio is cached across accounts.
Subscription and billing
Audition Buddy Pro is an auto-renewing monthly subscription, sold through Apple. The price is shown in your local currency on the subscription screen before you buy.
- To manage or cancel: Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Auto-renew must be turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends, or it renews.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under their terms. We cannot issue them — but tell us what went wrong anyway, because it is usually something we should fix.
- Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in Settings as above.
We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple Account. Apple tells us only whether your subscription is currently active.
Usage limits
Rendering speech costs us money, so there is a limit on how much any one account can render in a day and in a month, and a ceiling across all accounts together. The app tells you when you reach one. The limits exist to keep the feature working for everybody, and they may be adjusted.
If you have hit a limit mid-session, you can still record: the teleprompter, the camera and your takes all work without the synthesised reader.
Your data and account
Almost everything Audition Buddy holds is on your own phone, where it is already yours — deleting a take, a script, or the app removes it without asking us.
For anything held against an account, you may ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct it, ask us to stop or limit how we process it, withdraw consent you have given, or ask us to delete your account and its records. Write to hejhej@haratechnologies.com from the address you signed in with.

If something is not working
Buddy will not speak. Check that the phone is not on silent, that the volume is up, and that you have a working connection — the first time a line is spoken it has to be rendered. If you have reached a usage limit, the app will say so.
Characters or scenes came out wrong. This is nearly always the script's formatting rather than the scene. Re-export the sides as a PDF or Fountain file from the original if you can, and tell us what the layout looked like.
The camera or microphone is black or silent. Check Settings → Audition Buddy on your iPhone and confirm Camera and Microphone are allowed.
A take will not save to Photos. Confirm Audition Buddy has permission to add to your photo library in Settings → Audition Buddy → Photos.
